FROM ASH
CHAPTER THREE: THE VEIL

Christopher ran through smoke and collapsing concrete as the underground church burned behind him.
Screams echoed through underground tunnels.
Gunfire chased survivors through darkness.
He carried a terrified little girl in one arm while helping an elderly man walk beside him.
Behind them—
explosions tore through what remained of the church.
The pastor’s final words echoed in his mind:
“Save your daughter.”
Christopher screamed as the tunnel doors sealed behind them.
Then silence.
Hours later—
sunrise crept across the city skyline.
Christopher stood alone on a rooftop as rain began falling again.
The little girl he carried had been reunited with her mother.
The survivors disappeared into hidden refugee routes.

And once again—
Christopher stood alone.
He stared at the hard drive in his hand.
The truth.
He found refuge inside an abandoned warehouse once used by former NOISE engineers.

Dust covered old computer systems.
Broken monitors lined the walls.
Old blueprints remained pinned to corkboards.
Christopher recognized his own handwriting on some of them.
That realization made him sick.
He turned on an old terminal.
The machine flickered to life.
He inserted the hard drive.
The screen went black.
Then—
Ash appeared.
Christopher froze.
Her face filled the monitor.
She looked exhausted.
Eyes red.
Bruised.
Ash took a shaky breath.
VIDEO LOG 01

“If you’re watching this…”
long pause
“…then things have gone very wrong.”
Christopher moved closer.
Ash looked terrified.
“This started as therapy.”
Images flashed across the screen:
depression treatment programs
trauma rehabilitation
addiction recovery systems
“We believed we were helping people.”
Her voice cracked.
“Then they changed everything.”

Government files opened.
Military contracts.
Religious suppression protocols.
Neural obedience systems.
Christopher stared in horror.
Ash wiped tears from her face.
“This was never about healing.”
“This was about control.”
VIDEO LOG 02

Ash stared directly into the camera.
And whispered:
“Dad was right.”
Christopher completely broke.
He fell into a chair.
Hands shaking.
Tears streaming.
Ash laughed bitterly.
“I hate admitting that.”
She looked shattered.
“They’re trying to erase what makes us human.”
She leaned closer.
“They’re trying to erase our ability to seek Truth.."
Christopher whispered:
“No…”

Ash looked devastated.
“And I helped them build it.”
Long silence.
Then Ash whispered:
“If I don’t make it…”
Her voice broke.
“I’m sorry.”
The video ended.
Christopher sat in silence.
Rain hit broken warehouse windows.
He stared at Ash’s frozen image.
Then quietly whispered:
“You’re still worth saving.”
He searched the remaining files.
One location appeared:
NOISE TOWER — TOP LEVEL
Christopher grabbed:
his Bible
his weapon
the hard drive
And left.
NOISE TOWER

The tower rose into storm clouds.
Security everywhere.
Impossible odds.
Christopher entered anyway.
He fought through checkpoints.
Security drones.
Mercenaries.
Surveillance systems.
Broken elevator shafts.
Glass corridors.
Rain pounded windows thousands of feet above the city.
Blood ran down Christopher’s face.
He could barely stand.
But he kept climbing.
Finally—
top floor.
The doors opened.
Silence.
A massive white room.

Beautiful.
Cold.
Artificially perfect.
And there—
stood Ash.
Bruised.
Exhausted.
Tears already forming.
Christopher stopped breathing.
“Ash…”
She looked horrified.
“No…”
She shook her head.
“You shouldn’t have come.”
Christopher slowly stepped forward.
Then noticed:
security cameras
sealed exits
armed guards behind hidden glass
This was a trap.
“They used you.”
Ash looked away.
“I know.”
Christopher’s voice broke.
“Then why did you call me?”
Ash froze.
That question shattered her defenses.
She looked at the floor.
Her voice became small.
Vulnerable.
“Because I was scared.”
Long silence.
Tears rolled down her face.
“Not because I forgot what you did.”
Years of pain erupted.
“Mom died because of what you built.”
“We lost everything because of you.”
“You chose strangers over us.”
“You hid behind faith because it was easier than facing what you did.”
Christopher absorbed every word.
No excuses.
No defense.
Because some of it was true.
He nodded slowly.
“I was wrong.”
Tears streamed down his face.
“I can’t undo what I did.”
Ash shook with anger.
“Then why are you here?”
Christopher stepped closer.
His voice softened.
“Because I always had God reaching out to me.."
“I didn't take His hand for a long time..”
“He just wouldn't abandoned me…”
”And like Him, I would die To save you."
"I won't leave you.”
Everything in Ash broke.
Years of walls collapsed.
She began sobbing.
Christopher moved toward her.
She didn’t run.
For the first time in years—
he held his daughter.

Then—
ALARMS screamed.
Red lights flooded the room.
VEIL ACTIVATION IN TEN MINUTES
Ash pulled away.
Her face went white.
“No…”
Christopher looked around.
“What is that?”
Ash stared at the countdown.
“They moved up the launch.”
Christopher’s heart pounded.
“What launch?”
Ash looked at him with terror.
“The Veil goes global tonight.”
Her voice shook.
“The world has ten minutes left.”
Ash grabbed his hand.
The same way she used to as a little girl.
“We don’t have much time.”
Christopher looked at the countdown clock.

09:35
“What do we do?”
Ash pulled him toward an emergency exit corridor.
“The Veil’s signal is being broadcast from the core chamber beneath the tower.”
They sprinted through flashing red hallways.
Security alarms screamed around them.
Steel blast doors began shutting floor by floor.
Christopher fought to keep up.
“What happens if we don’t stop it?”
Ash looked back at him.
Tears in her eyes.
“Everyone connected to NOISE loses humanity.”
“They lose the ability to create.”
“To seek Truth..”
“To love.”
Christopher’s face dropped.
They reached a descending freight elevator.
Ash slammed the emergency override.
The doors slowly opened.
Far below them—
a massive glowing chamber pulsed beneath the city.
A giant circular machine spun violently.
Energy surged through thousands of connected neural pathways.
Christopher stared in horror.
“The Veil…”
Ash nodded.
“That’s where this ends.”
The elevator doors opened.
And they descended into darkness.
Deeper beneath the city.
Toward the machine.
Toward the end.
